Friday Playlist: Shut up and play the hits from April

The Mixtape team spent last weekend in Fredericton, N.B. at Flourish Festival. Two observations: the local scene is awesome and snow at music festivals at the end of April is not cool at all. One of our favourite performances came from Fredericton’s very own Sentimentals. The trio dropped the heavy-hitting Hometown Heroes album last Friday and it’s worth checking out.

We’ve put together a Spotify playlist of singles and songs from Canadian artists that came out in the month of April. It’s full of songs the Mixtape editorial team can’t stop listening to. We included a pair of new ones from  Gianna Lauren, who pulled a Kanye we a slightly moving release date and a tracklist that was reordered a million times. We start the playlist with a new track from Bernice, a Toronto artist playing SappyFest in August.

The song “Wishes in Wells” is sure to make our end-of-year list. The Halifax singer-songwriter taps into some magic on his long-awaited debut album Quiet the Station. Don’t sleep on this one. Also, speaking of anticipated albums from Halifax artists, Dance Movie dropped Pierce on April 28. It’s worth the wait. And new Feist! What a month.

And since not every artist is on Spotify, we’ve included a couple Bandcamp links as well. The Century Egg track technically came out at the very end of March but shhhhhh, we make our own rules.

And as a bonus, we have the premiere of “Slow Chunk” (and a bonus Q&A) from Sorrey up on the blog.
