Get your festival Instagram photos in Mixtape (and 7 musicians you should follow)

Every time I scroll through Instagram, I am reminded it’s festival season. It seems like everybody I follow was either at Bonnaroo in Tennessee or NXNE in Toronto last weekend. The Mixtape team will be busy this summer covering festivals for our print magazine and website so be sure to follow our Instagram account and see what we’re up to. This week, creative director Hilary Creamer is in Calgary covering Sled Island (when not being evacuated due to flooding).

In every issue of Mixtape we’ll publish the best Instagram photos from our editorial team and our readers. If you want a chance to see your concert photos from the summer on the fine pages of Mixtape this fall, simply tag your photos with #mixfest.

While we’re on the topic of Instagram, here are seven Canadian musicians worth populating your feed. These accounts give you the ultimate behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a Canadian artist.

1. Kathleen Edwards

The perfect blend of cats, dogs, music and hilarity. What more could you want?

2. Hannah Georgas

Georgas hangs out with lots of cool musicians and posts photos of these interactions. She also frequently posts pictures of whatever vinyl she’s listening to, giving followers a glimpse at her favourite sounds and influences.

3. Yukon Blonde

Hilarious photoshops and ridiculous photos will keep the LOLs rolling in your Instagram feed.

4. Rich Aucoin

Aucoin will post a photo from Halifax, then one from Paris 12 hours later. Then suddenly he’s in Iceland. Then Austin. Does he ever sleep?

5. James Reid

Halifax DJ James Reid posts lots of pictures of hip-hop vinyl and other #rare and hilarious finds from Taz Records. However, don’t look at his pics when hungry.

6. Metric

They do the usual band stuff like behind-the-scenes photos from concerts, video shoots and life on the road. However, the coolest thing they do is post clues where you can find hidden tickets to their shows. It’s like the amazing race in real life.

7. Carley Rae Jepsen

Follow her maybe?
