Mixtape’s launch on Friday was an all-round, unmitigated success.
We’re still pretty bowled over by the whole thing, and while we float along happily on the high of love from everyone (thanks, guys!), we thought we’d share some highlights with you.
Our first secret guest was easily spotted when he arrived to kick off the show: the impeccably dressed David Myles was kind enough to play a few songs for us, and even brought his own surprise guest: Canadian opera singer Measha Brueggergosman! The pair of them laughing and singing on stage was an amazing start to the night.
Gabrielle Papillon was new to many of our guests, and her sweet songs won them over. We heard from many people that they were excited to hear her new album, which she is about to start recording.
Our other secret guest was the fabulous Mo Kenney, who busted out a full band and electric guitar. Her set was infectious, as she danced around the stage with some moves that appeared to be inspired by her mentor, Joel Plaskett.
Next, rockers In-flight Safety played a stripped-down set. A highlight was their reinterpretation of their latest single, Destroy. In-Flight’s John Mullane was also a huge help advising us about putting together the performances at the event (thanks John! And Happy Birthday!).
Newer band Magnolia played the last set. Leanne Hoffman and Scott MacLean’s jazzy sound won them new fans and rounded out the night perfectly. It was really great to include a newer band on the bill with many established artists –we are here to introduce you to new stuff.
Thank you all for the support, whether you were able to make it or not. Stay tuned for what’s next!
