You probably haven’t heard of Pick a Piper…yet. In fact, this self-called “organic/electronic” band has been around for a while (since 2009) without much attention.
But that’s all about to change.
Scoring a spot in the studded lineup at Evolve Festival in Antigonish Nova Scotia, the Toronto-based band that describes their sound as “found-sound samples, synths, electronic percussion, and deftly sequenced helpings of reverb and delay,” is starting to gain some traction.
Pick a Piper is a side project for Brad Weber, who is most known for handling the percussive duties for Caribou’s live shows, in which he collaborates with bandmates Angus Fraser and Dan Roberts to create an eclectic mashup of sounds taken from the world around them. Backed with the support of Vancouver’s Mint Records, Pick a Piper creates polyrhythmic tunes that are a keen mix of trance and electropop and something mildly reminiscent of the 1990s Detroit rave scene.
It’s a guaranteed dance party ala 1970s psychedelic styles – perfect for the positive energy crowd at Evolve, so make sure you wear some comfy shoes.
