It’s day two of the Halifax Pop Explosion, so this week’s Mix Pick brings you Peterborough, Ontario band Express and Company.
Raised from the creative mind of singer/songwriter Dylan Ireland, Express and Company writes a relaxed mix of folk, bluegrass and indie songs – layered sounds topped with lyrical storytelling. The band creates songs that pair nicely with a warm cup of tea on a chilly autumn day.
Formed just a couple of years ago, the full band features the talents of Melissa Payne (fiddle), Joe Hay (drums), Liam Wilson (bass) and multi-instrumentalist Benj Rowland. The band has one self-titled EP, and in March they released the full-length Ontario. Between recordings, the band has fine-tuned their live performances, playing more than 200 performances across North America, including a stop at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.
Express and Company is featured on the roster of Halifax-based Rocking Horse Road Productions. RHR focuses on placing artists from the East Coast into film, TV and video games (both online and traditional media). They’re hosting a showcase, featuring The True Love Rules, Repartee, Heather Green as well as Express and Company at The Bus Stop Theatre as part of Halifax Pop Explosion.
Mixtape will be there too, handing out free cassette tapes featuring some of the RHR roster to the first 30 people through the door. The tapes give you special powers, like double-speed moustache-growing (perfect for Movember) and 20% off any product in our online store.
Don’t have a tape player? That’s cool – we’ve got the extended online playlist right here:
