Itchin’ to get out and ring in the new year with some live music? Well, this week’s Souncheck is a coast-to-coast listing of some primo shows to check out this New Year’s Eve. No matter where you live in this wonderful country of ours, there is something that will surely inspire you to get up, out and party hard—here’s just a few…
Halifax will see home-boy Matt Mays playing at Casino Nova Scotia, while The Stanfields and The Divorcees are going to cause a ruckus at the Marquee Ballroom.
Montreal is always ready for a party and this NYE is no different. Make sure you head over to the Telus Theatre to check out some of the best in Canada’s DJ scene including Chromeo and Ryan Hemsworth.
In Ottawa, head over to the Babylon Nightclub to check out Silkken Laumenn for a twofer – a NYE party and an album release party. You can also head over to the annual Sparks Street Promenade NYE bash and check out local band Loon Choir among many other bands playing at the outdoor event.
Toronto is hosting many, many NYE events but if you are itching for some banjo on your NYE, head to Lee’s Palace to see Elliott BROOD and Harlan Pepper. If that’s not your thing, you can head to the legendary Horseshoe Tavern to check out The Sadies or the Silver Dollar Room for Stella Ella Ola (which features the Boyd brothers from Hollerado).
Winnipeg is getting a real treat with Propagandhi playing The Windsor Hotel. While over in Saskatoon, locals Young Benjamins are ringing in the new year at the famous Amigos Cantina.
The Starlite Room in Edmonton is hosting a massive party with indie rockers Shout Out Out Out Out and hip hop artist Cadence Weapon.
And for those of you on the west coast, Vancouver‘s Rickshaw Theatre is hosting their annual “One Night Stand,” with guests from Said The Whale, Mother Mother, The Belle Game, Yukon Blonde and many other artists for one massive party.
Always remember folks, New Year’s Eve is meant to be a party, but stay safe out there!
Happy New Year and see you in 2014!
