
Even though Thanksgiving is now over (bring on the leftovers!), we’d just like to say that we are thankful for all of the great Canadian musicians and artists making some pretty rad music for us to listen to. And this week, your Soundcheck is full of some great news and new tunes from a handful of those artists.
Juno award-winning rapper Shad releases Flying Colours today. Today (October 15), CBC Music is experiencing #shadtakeover. He’s posting stories, insights and of course you can listen to the new album. Shad also told Mixtape a pretty rad story about making the new album in our Fall issue of Mixtape available now.
Toronto-based band July Talk, known for their bluesy rock sounds, released an extended version of their self-titled debut album. The album, originally released a year ago, features a revamped track-list and sees the addition of four new songs. They’ll also be headed out on tour soon, hitting up a number of Canadian cities, as well a few select American ones.
Luke Kuplowsky, who is most known as a member of Toronto band Broken Bricks, has announced a new solo album under the name Luka. Released on Fat Fat Sounds, Calling All Cats Black is set to drop November 12 and is being described as a “dark album of introspective folk.” Check out the ballad “Ghost” below.
Ontario band, The Strumbellas, are set to drop a new album, We Still Move On Dancefloors, on October 22, they released this little video gem talking about the album, songwriting and how to properly pronounce “Cholera.” The new album is streaming on CBC Music a week in advance.
The Fugitives and White Ash Falls, both Light Organ Records artists, have announced a joint tour across Canada to celebrate their upcoming albums “Everything Will Happen” and “Over The Night,” respectively. The tour will take both bands east and then back west, playing a number of venues between October 22 and November 29.
