Let’s just jump right in, shall we?
Dropping today is Arcade Fire’s much anticipated, fully leaked fourth studio album, Reflektor. It’s been one of the most-talked-about albums of 2013, craftily marketed to leave listeners with nothing more than a lot of hype. Fortunately (if you’ve listened to the full-album leak they released last week), the album follows through on the hype, bringing fans a new level of gritty, peppy, exciting sound.
Ontario hip hop artist Relic drops Golden today. This rapper’s latest album features six tracks of distinct rhymes, beats and mixes combined with the Relic’s signature chorus vocals. These beats are worth checking out. Relic also announced his Ghost Bus Tour, which will see him travelling between Kamloops and Montreal (and back) with Sweatshop Union’s Kyprios.
Sad news from yesterday: P.E.I. rockers Two Hours Traffic are calling it quits after 12 years. Assuring fans the break up isn’t about personal problems or infighting, the band said their decision to throw in the towel was because “it’s just the right time.” A final farewell tour will give fans one last chance to see them play—mostly in Ontario and Eastern Canada.
B.C. band the Nautical Miles will drop a new album, Ode to Joy, February 25, 2014. They say the album will showcase a more mature vibe and expand the boundaries of their rootsy alt-rock sound. They describe their new album as “a jubilant appeal for joyful rebellion and for taking the future back from those that tell us it does not exist.”
Vancouver band the Ballantynes have a new EP out today, Liquor Store Gun Store Pawn Shop Church. The EP is six songs and, they say, is about “falling in love with mixed results.” Whatever it may be about, the album’s catchy pop-rock is worthy of any new-love scenario—good or bad.
