Friday Playlist: Polaris Prize Shortlist 2014

On Monday, a group of Canadia music experts will duck into a room and select the best Canadian album from a pool of 10 albums. Those 10 albums were narrowed down from a group of 40 earlier this summer. The prize says it is looks at the best album “without regard to musical genre, professional affiliation or sales history,” according to the Polaris Prize website The winner takes home $30,000 while the other nine finalists get $2,000 each.

The 2014 nominees are:

  • Jessy Lanza – Pull My Hair Back
  • Mac DeMarco – Salad Days
  • Owen Pallett – In Conflict
  • Shad – Flying Colours
  • Tanya Tagaq – Animism
  • Timber Timbre – Hot Dreams
  • Yamantaka //Sonic Titan – Uzu
