For this week’s playlist, we checked in with indie pop rock bands In-Flight Safety (Halifax, N.S.) and Coyote (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) to see what members of the bands have been listening to lately. Both bands are currently working on new albums and touring together. Mixtape is presenting their mini Maritime tour that includes stops in Saint John (tonight!), Fredericton and Moncton. After the tour, In-Flight Safety will head down to Austin, Texas for SXSW.
Mike King (drums) : “Amour Than Amis” by Two Hours Traffic
“I really like Liam’s melodies and lyrics. It can be a challenge to write and record a new album but they seem to be able to keep it fresh and exciting with each stroke.”
Bruce Rooney (lead guitar) : “Out of the Woods” by Foals
“I think as a collective we’ve all really enjoyed these guys’ records. Just a really modern approach to pop music. Big Soundscapes, lots of effects and just an overall good listening experience each time I play one of their records.”
Josh Carter (lead vocals, guitar) : “Cactus” by Tanlines
“I really dug into this record over the summer, it’s called Mixed Emotions. Each song is just really fun and chock full of catchy sing-a-longs, tasteful guitar parts and driving drum tracks. My favorite song on the album is the tenth track, called ‘Cactus’.”
Bradford Rooney (keys) : “Chloroform” by Phoenix
“It’s just got such an infectious groove with incredible synth patches. I think chloroform is an anesthetic .. which suits the feel.”
Evan McCosham (bass) : “Hold on We’re going Home” by Drake
“That Track is just Jammin!”
“Denial” – I Break Horses
“Don’t Give Up” – Washed Out
“Proper Spirit” – Small Black
