Mix Pick Mixtape launch party: Gabrielle Papillon gets the party started

This Friday, Mixtape celebrates its inaugural issue – and you’re invited. Considering it’s our party and it’s going to be rad, we thought we would feature one of the great musicians who will be there to celebrate with us as this week’s Mix Pick. And as a last minute addition to the lineup, we are really happy to have Gabrielle Papillon help us get our party started right!

In 2001, Papillon released her first album Songs for a Rainy Day before taking an 8-year hiatus to finish not one but two degrees. During that time she was able to develop her music into a more mature and in-depth sound, which can be heard on her second album The Wanderer in 2010. Her third solo album The Currency of Poetry, released in 2011, demonstrates her continued musical maturity and devotion to passion in such a way that it garnered critical acclaim. In 2012 she released Little Bug which garnered East Coast Music Award and Nova Scotia Music Week nominations.
Her folksy guitar songs and delicate voice has attracted many devoted followers over the years. Many of her songs are easily simplistic in style, ultimately giving them a latent feeling of nostalgia. Building upon the subtle movements of her melodies, Papillon mixes in captivating harmonies and instrumentation that continue to demonstrate how she is a true troubadour, in the most classical sense of the word.

Papillon plans on heading back to the studio to record a new album with Daniel Ledwell (he also produced her 2012 album), which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2014.
You can catch Papillon play alongside Magnolia, DJ Jay McNeil and members of In-Flight Safety at the Mixtape launch party this Friday, October 4, at the Carleton in Halifax. For ticket info and other fun stuff head to the event’s Facebook page for all the details.
