Mix Pick: St. John’s synth-pop rockers Repartee

Repartee

What do you do when you are a talented opera singer but hate the formality of that particular music scene? Why you start a synth-pop band, of course.

At least that’s what Repartee lead singer, Meg Warren, did. And ever since the St. John’s band performed their first gig in 2009 they have had only one goal in mind – to make you dance.

Mixing driving beats with intricate vocal lines and enticing lyrics, this band produced their first EP in 2010 calling it Lost Like We All Are. Since then the band’s musical career has gotten bigger and bigger each year. Since their debut EP, the band has managed to release one full-length album and one more EP. Add to that a bunch of crazy tour schedules and it’s pretty clear that this band isn’t going away anytime soon.

Selected as one of the Mixtape’s mix picks, you can catch Repartee at Evolve this weekend. If you aren’t headed to the festival, don’t fret – they will most likely show up in your neighbourhood in the near future ’cause they are out to show Canada that a good party needs good music.

In the mean time, take a listen to them performing the song “Hello” at the Rock House in their hometown of St. John’s.
