On the video side of things, Young Galaxy have a stunning new video for “New Summer” and Win Butler of Arcade Fire joined the Rolling Stones on stage in Montreal this Sunday.
Single: The Strumbellas – In This Life
Last week the Strumbellas debuted the hand-clap filled new single “In This Life” on CBC Music. The indie-rock/alt-country band have a new album on the way sometime this fall. Earlier this year, the band’s debut album My Father and the Hunter was JUNO nominated for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year. In This Life is available today for purchase on iTunes.
Single: Neko Case – Man
Five long years since Case’s last album, this new song is soothing to the ears and the Case-loving heart. An uptempo song for blasting all summer, it should tide fans over until the full album The Worse Things Get The Harder I Fight The Harder I Fight The More I Love You is released September 3.
Single: Still Life Still – Enemies
It’s been a busy few days for Arts & Crafts band Still Life Still. This past weekend they played their label’s 10th birthday bash, Field Trip. Today they release the single “Enemies” from their album Mourning Trance set to be released August 20. The new album was recorded and produced by Alex Bonenfant (Crystal Castle, Metz), giving the tracks a different feel from the previous album produced by Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew.
Album: Construction & Destruction – DARK LARK
Duo Colleen Collins and David Trenaman are back with their new album DARK LARK, their first full-length since 2010’s MUTATIS MUTANDIS. The album features what people have come to love about C&D, fuzzy baselines, catchy guitar riffs, and raw vocals that range from soft and thoughtful to passionate, unpolished and frightening. DARK LARK was recorded at the partners seaside home recording studio known as The Quarantine in Port Greville, Nova Scotia. The album can be streamed and purchased through bandcamp.
Yesterday, the details of a split 12″ with Cousins was reported on Exclaim.ca. The vinyl will be a limited release through Noyes Records.
Mixtape: Tre Mission – Malmaison
Toronto MC Tre Mission dropped his eagerly anticipated mixtape Malmaison today. Leading up to the release, the 22 year-old has released a few videos to build hype. With over 14,000 followers, the hype has been building for the artist who mixes reggae, hip hop, grim, drum & bass and other genres in a blender. Check out the song “Runnup” to hear the name Gretzky spit with some edge.
Video: The Rolling Stones – The Last Time (feat. Win Butler of Arcade Fire)
Last week, The Rolling Stones announced Win Butler of Arcade Fire would be a guest performer at their Montreal show last Sunday. If you haven’t checked out the original post on Facebook and are in need of a laugh at people not knowing who Arcade Fire are, then you really should. The WTFIAF never gets old. The video is worth watching as Win Butler looks like a giant making music with a bunch of gnomes.
Video: Young Galaxy – New Summer
If you watch NASCAR for the crashes and love post apocalyptic scenes, you’ll want to watch the video for Montreal band’s track New Summer over on NPR. The track comes from the band’s latest album Ultramarine available through Paper Bag Records.
Video: Wordburglar – Croque Monsieur
The Backburner crew is at it again this summer with new releases expected from The Extremities, Ambition, Timbuktu and more. Up this week is SJ the Wordburglar rocking leather coats, state trooper sunglasses, machine guns and car chases in his new video for “Croque Monsieur” off of 2012’s 3rdburglar. The video pays homage to the revered art of the 80’s action flick and is directed by J. Langevin, who has worked with notables Classified and Buck 65, among others. You can catch Wordburglar live at NXNE this Thursday.
