Once a week Mixtape brings you the latest news, tunes and videos coming out of the Canadian music scene. And with the scene continually churning out amazing stuff, our Soundcheck is always full of new sounds.
Starting off this week’s Soundcheck is a free album from Toronto-based rapper More or Les. The album itself is a tribute to the long-running series, Dr. Who and is called Bigger on the Inside: A Time Traveller’s Mixtape. It’s a pretty interesting mix of beats and rhymes strung together as a fan-fiction tribute to the sci-fi series.
Vancouver goth-pop band Mode Moderne announced their upcoming album Occult Delight via YouTube. Set to be released in January, the band’s sophomore full-length album will feature 12 tracks, snippets of which can be heard in their announcement video below.
Dropping today is Crusade’s latest album Perhaps You Deliver This Judgment With Greater Fear Than I Receive It. The Ottawa-based hard rock band took their inspiration from the writings of Italian friar and philosopher Giordano Bruno, turning Bruno’s words and ideas into 10 scorching tunes.
Yukon-based Old Cabin is set to release his self-title album on November 26 and the single “Lighthouse” is out this week. Old Cabin, a pseudonym for singer/songwriter Jona Barr, is known for up-beat pop folk tunes that are catchy as hell.
Finally, the Vancouver celtic-punjab electro-rockers Delhi 2 Dublin released a new video on November 1. The video is for the song “Code Red” off their album Turn Up The Stereo and is an animated wonder-story seeing the team in a high-energy rescue mission.
