Soundcheck: New music from Bry Webb, Arkells and Close Talker

Constantines frontperson Bry Webb has another solo album, Free Will, coming out May 20. One of the new songs titled”Receive Me” premiered via Stereogum today. Webb also announced a string of tour dates playing alongside Chad VanGaalen and Cousins.

The Arkells have been busy at work on their third album. They wrote the songs in their hometown of Hamilton, Ont. and recorded it with Tony Hoffer (Phoenix, M83, Beck) in Los Angeles. The group released the first song from that album, “Never Thought That This Would Happen”.  The song is inspired by the Hillside music festival near Guelph, Ont.


Saskatoon indie-rock band Close Talker are getting ready to head to the studio to work on their new album with with producer Jace Lasaek (also a member of the Besnard Lakes) at his Breakglass Studios in Montreal. In the meantime they’ve released the new track “Heads” along with a video to accompany the track.


The Zolas are in the middle of a Canadian tour with The Mounties with shows coming up in Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary and Victoria. Feist kicked off her solo Mettle tour in Halifax this week. Mixtape was on hand to check out the show that featured a surprised guest appearance by Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip.
