Jon Mckiel returns with new EP
Jon Mckiel has a new self-titled EP coming out June 3 via Headless Owl Records. The six track EP was recorded with Jay Crocker (Ghostkeeper, No More Shapes) at Crocker’s studio in Crousetown, N.S. Noisey debuted the music video for I Know (I Know). You can also check out a live version of the song featuring Mckiel, Crocker, Mark Grundy (Quaker Parents, Heaven For Real) and Aaron Mangle (Cousins) performing the track in Halifax.

Shad shares story of turning down video game deal for NBA 2K12

Basketball has been the centre of the sports universe this past week after racist comments from Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. The NBA handed down a lifetime ban and $2.5 million fine. The whole ordeal has prompted responses from current players, former players, the U.S. President and countless others. Canadian rapper Shad shared one of his experiences with basketball and turning down an opportunity to licence a track for the video game NBA 2K12 as well as weighing in on the Sterling situation.

Drake + Lint Rollers
In other basketball news, we’re living in a world where Drake can sit court side and use a lint roller on his pants then bam, next home game in Toronto, October’s Very Own branded Raptors lint rollers are given out to fans for game 5 of the team’s series versus Brooklyn. The Raptors ended up winning the game and I’m sure Drake Power played a role.
J Mascis teams up with Fucked Up

Fucked Up shared their second single, “Led By Hand”, from their new album Glass Boys coming out June 3 on Arts & Crafts. The band are joined by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. on the new single.

Doomsquad head to Europe, share new video

Doomsquad, the electronic art and music project of the siblings Allie, Jaclyn and Trevor Blumas, hop the pond to play a handful of shows in Europe this month. They also have a new (and NSFW) video for the track “Disremember/Dismemberment” from their debut album Kalaboogie.

Diana release new video

Diana have a new video for “Strange Attractor”. The video, directed by George Fok, mixes shots of the band  performing with a story line that does the whole forward and backward timeline sort of thing.

Jazz trio Badbadnotgood have a new album III coming out on May 6 via Arts & Crafts affiliate Pirate Blend. The album can be streamed in advance via Exclaim.

New album from Joel Plaskett in 2015

Halifax indie rocker Joel Plaskett announced he has signed to Pheromone Recordings. His new album, the follow up to 2012’s Scrappy Happiness, is scheduled for release in early 2015.
