On Tuesdays, the Mixtape brings you a blog post full of the latest singles, albums and videos we think you should know about. Today there is a new single from PEI’s North Lakes. Jay Arner has an album you most definitely need to check out and Royal Canoe’s new album is being shipped out in vinyl form, a few months before the CD release.
Single: North Lakes – Queen of Cyprus
Charlottetown indie-rockers North Lakes are back with “Queen of Cyprus”, their first new music since 2012’s Grand Prix. Once again, the band show they know how to rock & roll and have a blast while doing it. The band plays Big Red Festival in Charlottetown on June 30. The song is available to stream via Exclaim and CBC Music.
Album: Jay Arner – self-titled
Jay Arner releases his debut album today on Mint Records. The Vancouver multi-instrumentalist has done a little bit of everything, from fronting bands to playing drums. As a producer and remix artist he has worked with Mount Eerie, Apollo Ghosts, Rose Melberg and No Gold. But enough about that, check out the new album, self-recorded by Arner. It has that DIY with nice equipment feel (which is dramatically different than DIY with terrible equipment). The album is available on 12″ vinyl as well. Just be careful, the melodies will get stuck in your head after a single listen.
Album: Royal Canoe – Today We’re Believers
Winnipeg’s Royal Canoe release Today We’re Believers today. Well sort of. The release date was pushed ahead to September 3. However today the album is available to pre-order via the bands website. Vinyl orders ship immediately and you can also pick up the vinyl version of the album on their summer tour.
