Soundcheck: New music from Jodan Klassen, YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN and some fun rumours from Arcade Fire

Jordan Klassen

Things must be gearing up for fall because this week’s soundcheck is jam packed with good new music, interesting rumours and lots of new music news.

Vancouver singer/songwriter Dominique Fricot released a new video today for the single “Our Last Song.” Fricot is known for making pop songs that channel something akin to Coldplay, without all the sadness and depression. Using thoughful lyrics as the backdrop, Fricot manages to combine jazz, blues, rock and soul in the songs of his debut EP If Baby Could Walk. This song isn’t on that album – signs of a new album on the horizon?

Friends with Fricot is Jordan Klassen, who announced the September 24 release of his full-length LP Repentance. Klassen, known for writing intricate tunes that are inherently playful in nature, hails from Canada’s west (Vancouver/Calgary) where he has quietly gathered a rather large and devoted following. Check out the first single from that album below:

Known for taking psychedelic sounds and mashing them together with pop rhythms, Montreal band YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN released a new track “One,” which will be heard on their upcoming sophmore album UZU, set to be released in October. This track demonstrates the band’s ability to play with sound by incorporating some serious tribal notes layered on top of serious beats.

Also, a big rumour came through after a series of instagram photos from Arcade Fire came out indicating the title of their new album, due out in October, will beĀ Reflektor – or at least involve that word somehow. While the album is set to be released October 29, the pictures also indicate that something may happen on September 9. So, keep your eyes and ears open folks.
