Every Tuesday Mixtape likes to bring you the newest sounds and videos from Canadian indie musicians and this Tuesday we are bringing you some gems.
Vancouver rapper Shad released a teaser single from his upcoming album Flying Colours today called “Stylin.” The song, available for download on iTunes, represents one of the many collaborations featured on the album and sees Shad working with the beat stylings (pardon the pun) of Toronto producer Saukrates.
Toronto post-punk indie rockers The Box Tiger are releasing a new album called Set Fire on August 6 and until then, they’ve signed up with the CBC to stream the whole thing online for those fans who just can’t wait. Here’s the latest single from that album:
The Halifax band known for their lush orchestral-pop sounds The Heavy Blinkers are out with a new album called Health. After some personnel changes, the band’s front man Jason Michael MacIsaac has built an album full of musically dense indie-pop songs that leave fans feeling nothing but glee and happiness. Have a listen to the first single from the album:
Also in Halifax, the local indie label Noyes Records released a limited run 12″ album featuring three songs a piece from Cousins and Construction & Destruction. There are only 300 of these babies and purchase of the vinyl version gives you access to a free download as well, ensuring you get these tunes no matter where you are.
Saskatoon folk singer/songwriter Zachary Lucky released the first single from his new album The Ballad of Losing You today. The song called “Woke up” reflects how the entire album, set to be released in September, is a step away from the traditional folksy sound Lucky is well-known for and takes on more of a country feel, painting a picture of that tragic romance one only feels on the prairies.
