Grab a cup of coffee, kick your feet up and enjoy some of the latest, freshest sounds from some of your favourite Canadian musicians in this week’s soundcheck.
Starting things off is a new album, Jubilee, from Saskatoon folkies The Deep Dark Woods. Released today, the album, is described as a journey through folk and rock history, paying homage to some musical pioneers such as The Bryds. The album also sees the band experimenting with a wider instrumentation than they normally have, featuring sounds from the vibraphone and celestra (just to name a few).
Also releasing an album today are Calgary indie stars Boreal Sons. The album, Threadbare is a winding soundscape of dreamy guitar licks and airy vocals strung together to create an emotional journey.
Also happening this week is the official Mixtape Magazine launch party. Taking place on Friday, October 4th at the Carleton in Halifax, we’ve got performances by Gabrielle Papillon, Magnolia, DJ Jay McNeil and members of In-Flight Safety.
